The Phoenix Suns have agreed to a huge trade, sending 15-time NBA All-Star Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets. In return, the Suns will get Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in this year’s draft, and five second-round picks, according to ESPN. The trade will officially go through on July 6 when the new NBA season begins.
Durant was at an event in New York when the news broke, surprising fans. “I’m excited to join the Rockets,” Durant said. “It’s been a wild few weeks, but I’m happy it’s done.”
The Rockets are getting one of the best scorers in NBA history. Durant, who turns 37 in September, averaged 26.6 points this season. He joins a young Houston team that includes All-Star Alperen Şengün, rising star Amen Thompson, and veteran Fred VanVleet. The Rockets won 52 games this season under coach Ime Udoka, who recently signed a big contract extension.
Houston’s chances to win next year’s NBA title improved after the trade, moving from 18-1 to +850 at ESPN BET. Only the Oklahoma City Thunder have better odds. Meanwhile, the Suns’ odds dropped from 100-1 to 300-1.
For Phoenix, this trade brings in young talent and future draft picks. Jalen Green, 23, averaged a team-high 21 points this season, while Dillon Brooks is known for his strong defense. The Suns now have more flexibility to rebuild their roster.
Durant has a strong connection with Udoka from their time in Brooklyn and with Team USA. “The Rockets had a great season, and I think I can help them,” Durant said.
This move marks a new chapter for both teams—Houston gets a superstar to compete for a title, while Phoenix starts fresh with a younger squad.
